3D development

The team focused on low poly modeling, 3D transitions, navigation development and new shaders in accordance with the concept and constraints related to HPC and Leia. We also developed the instrumentation and camera view changes according to the context.

Product design

In order to demonstrate new design possibilities and to improve the user's perception, this phase focused on the research of tangible 3D shapes and their animations. We took our inspiration from luxury watch.

What is the 3D display ?

The Lightfield 3D display, powered by its proprietary Diffractive Lightfield Backlighting (DLB™) technology, delivers an uncompromising 2D display that provides the most natural and immersive 3D experience to date.
The idea of this project is to produce an immersive experience through 3D technology without glasses and thus bring depth, light, texture and a sense of volume to automotive interfaces. This project propels images off the screen and closer to us than we ever imagined.

Goals
The challenge of this project is to promote our expertise in automotive human-machine interface solutions and 3D Leia Display and to implement 3D navigation and cluster on 3D display ​with new wow-factor and a better UX.
3D can help drivers to anticipate a situation thanks to a better environment understanding. 3D provides space and depth. Therefore, the distances are easier to understand.

3D allows to prioritize elements with depth on 3 dimensional layouts. The additionnal depth dimension helps to layout content and hierarchize information and warning. So, the driver can access important information with less cognitive load. Therefore, the driver can focus more on the road and less on distractive elements.
The challenge is also to create a more intuitive interaction between the driver and the vehicle and thus improve driving safety. At the same time, we need to promote HPC performance through the 3D user experience and convince OEMs to adopt this technology.
3D boosts the alert perception with eye catching effect of objects suddenly popping out the display.

Understand the technology
analysis
The resolution is low. The full resolution of the curved cluster display is 2400x900 (2k, 208ppi). The 8 individual views are only at 849x318 (<1k, 74ppi). Small fonts and tiny graphics are not recommended.
The depth of field is limited. If a 3D object is too far in front or too far behind Leia Frustum, the 3d object seems blurred. Only one area is clearly visible for 3D objects.
